Industrial Hygiene is the science and art of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards and stressors which may cause sickness, impair health and well-being, or cause significant discomfort among workers or citizens of a community. Hazards and stressors may be of a chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic nature. Part of the job of an Industrial Hygienist is to evaluate the magnitude of these hazards or stressors, primarily through quantitative measurement, for development and/or assistance with control measures to eliminate or reduce employee exposures.
A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a professional who has met the requirements for education and experience, and has successfully completed the CIH examination administered by the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly known as the American Board of Industrial Hygiene). Through examination and work experience, CIHs have demonstrated proficiency in a variety of topics including but not limited to air sampling and instrumentation, toxicology, engineering controls/ventilation, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, work environments & industrial processes, noise, thermal stressors, analytical chemistry, and biohazards.
The CIH is dedicated to maintaining, promoting, and working in a highly ethical fashion. CIHs are required to maintain high standards of integrity and professional conduct, accept responsibility for their actions, and comply with all laws, regulations, and any applicable policies. Nelson Industrial Hygiene, LLC is dedicated to working professionally and ethically and to providing accurate, truthful, and complete reports while maintaining confidentiality of any sensitive or proprietary client information. Additional ethics and certification information is available from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing at https://ehscredentialing.org
First and foremost, thank you so much for being here! I began my career in occupational safety in 2010 after graduating with a BS in Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
My career started as a Safety Intern at Oshkosh Defense in Oshkosh, WI. After completing my internship, I was then hired on as a Safety Coordinator to oversee safety for two Oshkosh Defense facilities. In 2012 I took a position as an IH Technician with Stantec Consulting in their Mequon, WI office. With Stantec being a large global consulting company, I was able to travel all over the United States several times over to perform monitoring in a wide variety of industries.
During my time at Stantec, I had the privilege to work for several talented CIHs who mentored me professionally and encouraged me to pursue my ultimate goal of becoming a CIH myself. Achieving the CIH credential opened the opportunity to pursue another long-time goal of operating my own consulting practice.
Nelson Industrial Hygiene, LLC looks forward to assisting you with your IH needs. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or to just say hello!
